Empowerment Starts Here
Southern Girls Soaring equips youth in Alabama's Black Belt with the knowledge and confidence to lead in their communities. Through mentorship and hands-on learning in STEM, financial literacy, health literacy, data literacy, and community service, we prepare the next generation of leaders to shape the future of the places they call home. What We Do
Every Southern Girls Soaring program helps youth build real-world skills, confidence, and connections that last.

STEM Exposure
Youth explore science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on projects like coding, robotics, and design challenges.

Mentorship
Youth connect with women leaders who share their journeys and help them set goals for school, careers, and life.

Financial Literacy
Youth learn to budget, save, and plan for the future by building a mock household budget and setting personal savings goals.

Health Literacy
Youth learn how to find trustworthy health information, make healthy choices, and speak up for their own wellbeing.

Data Literacy
Youth collect and chart real data about their own communities, learning to tell powerful stories with numbers.
Our Journey
Southern Girls Soaring was founded by Jacqulyn D. Boone, a longtime educator and dedicated member of the Fort Deposit community. Through years of working with young people, she saw the same need again and again: youth who were bright and full of promise but hadn't yet been given the space, guidance, or tools to discover who they are and imagine who they could become.
She created Southern Girls Soaring to change that. Through mentorship, hands-on learning in STEM and life skills, and service to our communities, we help youth build confidence, explore new possibilities, and grow into leaders. Our belief is simple: every young person deserves the chance to discover who they are and define who they want to be.
Community Events
Southern Girls Soaring joined SRBWI, Sweet Home ALAbaby, and community partners to host a heartwarming baby shower celebrating expectant mothers and their growing families. Moms enjoyed lunch, designed custom onesies at our Southern Girls Soaring station, and connected with resources from the Alabama Department of Public Health, My Care Alabama, and early literacy partners. Families also learned car seat safety and went home with diapers, baby essentials, and new cribs to help their little ones sleep safely.
Together, we celebrated new beginnings and reminded every mother that her community stands behind her.
